This project has been floating in my head for over a year now and I am so pleased to finally start bringing it to life. “Faces of Lightwater” is a photography project aiming to capture portraits of people who represent our village, from a charismatic market trader to an inspirational teacher. Through this project, I would love to give recognition to these people and capture a portrait for posterity.
What is pushing me to finally take actions is the life after #covid19. We all know we will need every little help to make our businesses stand strong again. Once we are out of #lockdown and I have gathered a selection of portraits, I would love to organise an exhibition in our village to celebrate all those who took part, but first things first, I need more faces!!!
Katie is a Veterinary nurse and Veterinary physiotherapist with a small clinic in Lightwater, Surrey. She is well equipped to help animals with a variety of problems.
Only last year, the little dog called Milo was diagnosed with swimmers syndrome which had been left untreated for so long it resulted in contracted muscles and dysfunctional joints in his hindlimbs and was meant to be put down.. Fortunately for Milo, Katie took him in and started physiotherapy with him. 6 weeks it took her to get Milo back to health…6 weeks of dedication, 6 weeks of hard work, 6 weeks of saving Milo’s life!! I mean, this woman is amazing!!! On top of this she has rescued and fostered many animals including fox cubs, baby hedgehogs, kittens, puppies.
If your animal suffers with any condition just give Katie a shout, I can promise you she will do anything in her power to give your four legged friend the best treatment possible!

Meet The Lycra Clad Warriors
A group of local dads from Surrey cycled for 200 miles to raise money for our local schools. The cyclists, Billy, Tom, Paul, Craig and Lee raised over £2,000, which they donated to help support the local Hammond school and Lightwater Village School in Surrey. As the world deals with the COVID-19 pandemic, schools face challenges that will extend budgets and push teachers in new ways. The sizable donation from lycra clad warriors will help curb some of those difficulties that lie ahead. This charity ride further shows that in times of need, our community will always band together and support the people and programs that need it most. Again, big thank you to them for helping our local schools! You guys rocks!!!
Richard, our local Hermes delivery guy. People of Lightwater chose Richard for his kindness, helpfulness and always trying to solve our delivery problems.
“I’ve lived in Lightwater for over 20 years and love being part of the village and All Saints’ Church. God called me to serve as a Christian minister over ten years ago, and I especially enjoy getting alongside children and their families. I’m looking forward to being able to get back into school for our ‘Go Fish’ club! During lockdown, we began recording services and children’s activities to put online. I never imagined being a children’s ‘tv presenter’ but it’s been good fun! It has been a great way to still feel connected with our lovely community. We have just begun a relaxed All Age service in the church hall each week – with families sitting at tables. It’s fun and interactive, with some things on the big screen, and plenty to do at your tables. I enjoy walking round the village in my dog-collar – people readily give a smile and a wave!”
I was lucky enough to work with Kim on few occasions. Beautiful girl with a heart of gold! Very devoted to her village. 4 years ago she had an idea to create a Santa Float which she brought to life and created, what is now, a regular Xmas village event!! How amazing hey? She then introduced the Easter Bunny this year! I mean wow!! She’s a treasure!
Joyce is an unsung hero in the village, if she’s not fixing watches for charity shops she’s knitting teddies, & hats for local maternity wards. She is always gardening investing her own money in plants and compost even though they all employ a gardener! During lockdown Joyce would walk her neighbours up and down the drive to give them a little confidence of daily exercise. There is so much more that Joyce does, always with a big smile. It’s people like her who make the world a much better place!

Meet Jarmila and David Yu
This couple are familiar to local Lightwater businesses as they are on the committee of the Lightwater Business Association. The LBA is the volunteer group which organises the Fayres in the Square and co-organises the village fete, as well as hosting bi-monthly business networking meetings. Sadly, they’ve had to suspend all events this year, but are still promoting their members on their Facebook page and all local businesses are welcome to register for a free directory listing or become full members. Although a public Christmas light switch-on event cannot be held this year, Jarmila is working hard to coordinate another lovely light display to bring festive cheer. Jarmila is also a Parish Councillor and is currently Vice Chairman. She has recently written articles for the two local magazines about the proposal for a new village pavilion/community hub, which is a project she is very keen to support. David and Jarmila run YUnique Marketing Ltd, an award-winning strategic marketing consultancy helping small and medium sized businesses with their marketing from a strategy-led perspective, which is particularly essential during these turbulent times.
